Field Notes: January 16, 2026

The weather is being weird. January blues are a real thing especially when it doesn't look outside how I think it should. I went to the grocery store in no coat today! When my friends tell me they like the nice winter weather, I usually say that I would rather have it be winter when it's supposed to be winter instead of having late snow and late frosts. Every year is a new adventure that's for sure. My daffodils are coming up because it is that warm. We planted 4 trees on Christmas Eve! I keep wondering if I should direct sow my hard annuals right now like larkspur and Bells of Ireland. Maybe I will. I am currently reflecting, planning for the year ahead, reading a lot, and doing little things each day to create. Overall, it feels like a beautiful way to spend January. What beautiful things have you noticed lately?

Field Notes

I made White Chicken Chili for my teenage boys and their friends for Thursday Lunch Day. It's my 15-year-olds favorite soup. I finished this book last week and can't stop thinking about it. My kids and being a Mom has been heavy on my mind recently.   Look at this cute Apron. I made cafe curtains over Christmas break using these napkins. I am lucky enough to have a couple of friends that have vintage shops. I bought a plaid skirt here and there are so many cute ones left. The flower I am most excited to see again this year.
